A trading contest can be more useful than a leaderboard. It gives traders a defined period to test execution, position sizing and risk controls against a consistent set of rules. TMGM’s October–November 2026 Demo Trading Competition offers that environment on a specially issued MT5 demo account, with an advertised prize pool of up to US$5,000. The appeal is straightforward: entrants trade with virtual funds, while eligible top-ranked participants can receive real prizes.

But a strong percentage return alone is not enough. The competition also sets minimum trading volume, activity and fairness rules. This guide explains what the event involves, how rankings are calculated, and what traders should evaluate before joining. The dates and conditions below refer specifically to the October–November 2026 round.

At the time of review, the listed awards were US$2,000 for first place, US$1,000 for second, US$800 for third, US$600 for fourth, and US$100 each for fifth through tenth. The top three are also described as receiving certificates. Prizes should not be interpreted as guaranteed income: participants must qualify and earn a valid ranking.

Who can participate?

The event is intended for eligible TMGM customers in supported countries outside Australia and the UK. The competition information states that entrants must have at least one activated MT4 or MT5 account in the TMGM portal before registering; a newly issued MT5 competition demo account is then sent to the registered email address. Existing personal demo accounts cannot be substituted.

A distinction worth noting: the competition itself uses a virtual US$100,000 starting balance, but this does not mean that every visitor is automatically qualified or that all brokerage-account requirements disappear. Check your own jurisdiction, account status and TMGM’s current legal terms before submitting an application. The organizer permits up to five competition demo accounts per participant, with results calculated separately for each account.

How the rankings work

Performance is evaluated using percentage return against the initial virtual account balance. In simplified form:

Return (%) = (Final account equity − US$100,000) ÷ US$100,000 × 100.

For example, an equity balance of US$112,000 would represent a 12% return; US$94,000 would indicate a −6% return. These are illustrations only, not competition results. Importantly, final equity includes floating profit or loss on open positions at the competition cutoff, listed as November 22, 2026 at 23:59:59 MT4/MT5 server time.

Because the formula uses equity, not just closed-trade profit, unrealized losses can reduce a contestant’s final return. Overleveraging to chase rankings can lead to sharp drawdowns even in simulated trading. An attractive leaderboard result is less meaningful if the underlying approach could not be managed consistently with real capital.

The two qualifying hurdles many traders overlook

1. Minimum effective trading volume

Accounts must achieve at least 50 standard lots of effective trading volume. Forex and bullion count at a 1:1 ratio. For indices, crude oil and crypto CFDs, ten actual lots count as one effective standard lot. Shares trading volume does not count toward this threshold.

For instance, 30 forex lots plus 200 index-CFD lots would equate to 50 effective standard lots under the published conversion rules. That example is not a suggested trading plan: selecting instruments purely to accumulate lots may create unwanted exposure and costs.

2. Minimum trading-time activity

The rules additionally require one of two activity patterns: hold at least one position for a minimum of ten trading days, or open and close at least one position per day for ten consecutive trading days. Both the volume and trading-time conditions must be fulfilled to qualify for the final ranking and prizes.

These rules make last-minute, one-off speculative trades an unreliable way to compete. A trader who joins after the competition starts should review how eligible positions and trading days are counted from the point of registration.

Fair trading rules, hedging and automated strategies

TMGM permits trading approaches and automated systems that comply with its rules, but it prohibits manipulative activity, including abusive cross-account hedging and pricing or quotation exploitation. In particular, a hedging-order volume ratio above 50% is described as a violation of the event’s fairness policy and can result in disqualification. Monitoring may extend across multiple accounts and participants.

Traders planning to use Expert Advisors should therefore test both their trading logic and compliance assumptions before relying on them for contest results. A bot that can execute orders is not necessarily an eligible strategy. Review all parameters, trade logs and exposure—especially when multiple demo accounts are involved.

Five practical ways to approach the contest more thoughtfully

  1. Start with a written risk budget. Decide how much simulated drawdown you are willing to tolerate before trading, and keep position sizes consistent with that limit.
  2. Plan around the activity rules. Track effective lots and qualifying trading days rather than checking only the leaderboard.
  3. Evaluate instruments, not just opportunities. Forex, precious metals and indices have different lot conversion factors and market behaviours.
  4. Document each trading decision. A journal of entries, exits, assumptions and mistakes can make the contest valuable even without a prize.
  5. Keep the difference between demo and live trading clear. Virtual profits are not proof of sustainable returns; execution, emotional pressure and financial exposure can differ on a funded account.

How to prepare for participation

First, review whether TMGM supports your country and whether your customer account satisfies its activation requirement. Next, check registration availability within the official October 19–November 8 window. If eligible, register using accurate details, keep the account email accessible and wait for the competition-specific MT5 demo credentials. Do not use a personal MT4 demo or an older MT5 demo account.

Before trading, confirm the competition dates, permitted instruments, valid-lot conversion factors, minimum activity and rule violations. Set up an independent tracking sheet for equity, maximum drawdown, effective volume and consecutive trading days. The event’s result is ultimately subject to the organizer’s final assessment.

Is the TMGM contest worth considering?

For an eligible trader who already uses MT5 or wants a structured way to evaluate a strategy, the contest offers a defined challenge with an advertised real-money prize pool and no competition-entry fee. Its educational potential comes from measuring process and discipline, not merely achieving a headline return.

The limitations matter equally: prize eligibility depends on volume and trading-time requirements, restrictions apply to countries and account status, abusive trading may disqualify results, and participation does not guarantee an award. Opening a live brokerage account should be evaluated independently of a demo-contest incentive.
